Generally useful tips

Plant protection agents are substantially less expensive in the form of concentrates than of finished products.

First determine the exact type of damage and then select the appropriate agent. To verify the analysis, consult your dealer.

Do not prepare more agent than needed, and do not pour the rest out into the sewage system.

Observe the manufacturer's mixture ratio instructions.

Completely dissolve pulverized products before pouring them into the spraying apparatus to make sure that the line and nozzle are not clogged. Never perform plant protection treatments under heat and exposure to strong sunlight because the leaves would suffer burning damage.

It is best to distribute the spray solution with a fine nozzle spray onto and underneath the leaf canopy to produce uniform dew formation with slow drying. Wood protection and impregnation agents such as for garden fences can be readily applied with a specially resistant spraying apparatus such as Birchmeier's Profi Star which is equipped with viton seals. After the application, always make sure to clean the spraying apparatus thoroughly.

The technical terms:

Insecticide: Against insects (6-leg)
Fungicide:
Against fungus attack
Arcaricide:
Against mites (8-leg)
Herbicide:
Against weeds. Total weed killer on gravel and stone pavement. Selective herbicide for selective application in the lawn.

Powdery mildew: White, mealy coating which spreads over the entire plant in areas.
Downy mildew:
Occurs always only on the leaf underside.
Compact white-gray to mouse-gray mildewy blotches of lawn. On the leaf upperside recognizable by initial yellow blotching. Later orange- to purple red.
Frequently also strong leaf loss.

Indoor plants

Indoor plants thrive particularly well if they are sprayed regularly with lukewarm water. Profusely green and luxurious leaves will grow if the plant is sprayed with a liquid fertilizer. Your dealer will advise you on the most appropriate fertilizer. An insecticide or miticide will assist in getting rid of harmful insects, spider mites and crab lice. Select concentrates for selective application with a sprayer. That is less wasteful, less expensive and less harmful to the environment. Make sure that the mixture ratio instructions are followed strictly! Repeat 3-4 times at intervals of 10 days.

Recommended sprayers:
Super Star 1,25, Garden 3

Roses

In the spring, starting with bud formation until the end of September, regular treatments with insecticides and fungicides administered in intervals of 14 days are indispensable. For the prevention of fungus attack such as powdery and downy mildew, rust or starshaped black mildew rose stalks are to be sprayed sufficiently early and thoroughly with a fungicide. The last treatment is administered in the late fall to prevent the hibernation of harmful fungi spores. If you have already observed fungus attack, cut off the wilted rose blossoms in time enough to prevent further spreading. Immediately spray plant lice, as well all devouring and suckling insect parasites with an insecticide. Acaricide is particularly effective against spider mites. The treatment should be repeated in intervals of max. 14 days until all parasites have been destroyed. Always dilute the concentrates used with the prescribed amount of water. Use up agents which have already been diluted within a period of 24 hours. After this time, the effectiveness will deteriorate. Incidentally: Roses thrive on banana peels because they contain a lot of minerals and trace elements. Hence, for leaf and blossom formation simply chop up banana peels.

Recommended sprayers:
Up to 10 rose stalks: Garden 3 or Florajet
Up to 20 rose stalks: Garden 5 or Profi 5
For more than 20 rose stalks: Power LG or Flox

For clinging roses extension wand recommended.

Balcony plants
(such as geraniums, petunias, lantanas)

Protected balconies are usually dry and warm, thereby providing an ideal climate for plant lice, spider mites and white flies.
Close observation is therefore advisable to enable you to react with the appropriate agent  at the first sign of parasites. Suitable insecticide concentrates against plant lice and white flies are available from your dealer. First spray the plants thoroughly, in particular on the leaf underside. It is important for the spraying to be repeated 4 times in intervals of 10-14 days. Spider mites cannot be treated with conventional insecticides. In this case, only special concentrates such as acaricide will be effective. Here as well the treatment must be repeated a number of times. Incidentally: Be aware that the main effort of a summer flower is directed toward seed production. Therefore, cut off wilted leaves immediately so that the plant will produce more blossoms and extend the blossoming season
.

Recommended sprayers:
Florajet, Super Star 1,25, Garden 3

Vegetables, tomatoes, herbs etc.

Plant lice, caterpillars etc. are combated with commercially available insecticides, the natural active ingredients of which are degraded by the plants after only a short time. After an appropriate waiting period the vegetables can be consumed after having been thoroughly washed without fear of pesticide contamination. In the case of tomatoes one is still well advised to support the plants after the growing of 8 fruit bunches. If your tomatoes show signs of leaf mould, use a suitable fungicide. Spider mites are not be combated with conventional insecticides. In this case, only special concentrates such as acaricide will be effective. Here as well, more than one treatment is necessary.

Extension wand recommended.

Fruit trees, berries, grapes

Who wants fruit that is full of worm holes? To prevent such conditions, fruit trees are to be treated with insecticides at a sufficiently early time and regularly. Sufficiently early treatment is also the correct measure against scurf and mildew. To prevent manila fruit rot from attacking apple trees,  when the buds swell up treat them with a copper preparation. When the buds start to blossom and on wilting, treat them with a fungicide. As a preventive measure remove and destroy the rotten fruit that remains on the tree after the fall harvest, and in no event put them into the compost. A guest that is unwelcome to raspberries is the raspberry caterpillar. Simply spray a suitable agent after the buds have reached full blossom. Espalier grapes are particularly subject to frequent attacks by shield lice. They rob the grape of valuable nutrients and produce honeylike excretions. As a result, various black dew fungi will develop which blacken the grapes and the leaves. Winter treatment with appropriate spraying agents will help.

Recommended sprayers:
Depending on garden size: Garden 3, Garden 5Profi 5, Profi Star, Power LG, Flox, Iris

Extension wand or Vario Gun recommended.

Weedkilling

With herbicides, the best treatment is achieved if they are applied under «vigorous» weather, and not washed out again within 24 hours. By contrast with the use of a watering can, spraying has the advantage that the fine droplets will remain adhered  to the weeds to enable them to develop their full action. In addition, unintentional pollution of the ground is also thereby avoided.

Recommended sprayers:
Garden 3, Garden 5Profi 5, Profi Star, Flox, Iris

Make sure to use spraying bonnet.

BIO

Birchmeier spraying apparatus is excellently suited for biological plant care. For this purpose concentrates, nettle leaves and horsewillow are available. In addition to combating parasites, the health of the plant is also strengthened generally. For the backpack spraying apparatus Flox, Iris and Senior a bio filter bag (art. no. 11475701) is also additionally available.
